What is Hajj?
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam — an obligation once in a lifetime upon every Muslim who is physically and financially able. It takes place on fixed dates in the month of Dhul Hijjah and follows a set sequence of rites across Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah. This guide covers packages, cost, requirements and a day-by-day walkthrough for pilgrims from Pakistan in 2026.
Hajj packages 2026: government vs private
Pakistani pilgrims can perform Hajj through two routes:
- Government Hajj Scheme — administered by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA), with the majority of Pakistan's quota. It offers a Long package (~38–42 days) and a Short package (~20–25 days). When applications exceed the quota, seats are allotted by balloting.
- Private Hajj packages — offered by licensed operators like Mutaff, usually with more choice of hotels, proximity to the Haram and service level. Pakistan's total quota for 2026 is around 179,210 pilgrims, split between the government scheme and the private sector.
How much does Hajj cost from Pakistan?
The estimated cost for the government Hajj 2026 is around PKR 1,150,000–1,250,000 per person, paid in instalments (a mandatory first deposit is submitted with the application). Private packages are priced by duration, hotel category and distance from the Haram, and can be higher for premium, close-to-Haram stays.
Eligibility & documents
- Passport valid through about January 2027 (expiry not before 26 November 2026)
- Original CNIC and NADRA biometric verification
- Recent passport-size photograph, mobile number & emergency contact
- Age rule: no upper age limit, but children born after 1 March 2014 are not eligible
Mandatory vaccinations
Saudi Arabia requires proof of vaccination for entry:
- Meningococcal Meningitis (ACWY) — at least 10 days before arrival in Saudi Arabia
- Polio (OPV) — a dose within 4 weeks before departure for Pakistani travellers
Carry your official vaccination certificate; it may be checked at the airport and on arrival.
How to apply for Hajj
Applications for Hajj 2026 opened on 11 August 2025 and continue until the quota fills. For the government scheme, applications are submitted through designated banks; if demand exceeds the quota, a balloting (draw) determines selection. For a private package, apply directly through a licensed operator such as Mutaff, who manages your visa, flights, accommodation and ground services.
How to perform Hajj — day by day
Hajj unfolds over five key days of Dhul Hijjah. Your group's religious guide will lead you; here is the sequence:
Day 1 — 8th Dhul Hijjah (Mina)
Enter Ihram and travel to Mina (Yawm al-Tarwiyah). Spend the day and night in prayer and supplication, praying the five daily prayers shortened (Qasr) without combining.
Day 2 — 9th Dhul Hijjah (Arafat & Muzdalifah)
Proceed to Arafat — the pinnacle of Hajj. Spend the day in dua and repentance until sunset (do not leave before sunset). Pray Dhuhr and Asr combined and shortened. After sunset, move to Muzdalifah, pray Maghrib and Isha combined, rest, and collect pebbles for the days ahead.
Day 3 — 10th Dhul Hijjah (Eid / main rites)
Return toward Mina and stone the largest pillar (Jamarat al-Aqabah) with seven pebbles. Offer the Qurbani (sacrifice), then shave or trim the hair to exit the first stage of Ihram. Perform Tawaf al-Ifadah (and Sa'i) in Makkah.
Days 4–5 — 11th & 12th Dhul Hijjah (Tashreeq)
In Mina, after Dhuhr each day, stone the three pillars in order (small, medium, large) with seven pebbles each. Pilgrims may leave on the 12th before sunset, or stay for the 13th for extra reward.
This is a simplified overview of the Hajj rites. Follow your official group guide and a qualified scholar for complete rulings, timings and duas.
